Finally "lost it"?

My children have voted and they say that I have "finally lost it!" although my oldest thought that I had when I served chilled cucumber soup last year...

But you see, tonight on the way home from my daughter's art lesson I saw some guys cutting the lawn outside a petrol station. I have been wanting some grass for my compost heap...and well...I pulled over the car and asked them for a few bags.

I thought I was a clever girl when I drove home with my 4 bags of gorgeous grass, but my daughter was cringing in the front seat.

And when I got home, the others announced that I have officially and finally "lost it"! Not sure what "it" is...but they are convinced!

What do you say, have I : yes :-( or no :-) ?

Lost it? Heck, no! You've found it.

Congrats on the grass. You have some great greens to put in your compost pile!

If only more people did this...

Hi Wendy! So neat to hear you say petrol and rubbish! I've missed that since moving from UK to US (30 years ago!) Hope you're feeling better ...

They do not understand the unique balance required in the compost and how valuable that green will be to the balance. One day they will understand, for now you will fulfill their every moment of embarassment. Apparently even wearing my hat to collect my daughter from school was a hugely humiliating experience.

Nope, not at all. You're just fine.

I've taken the neighbor's leaves and grass for the compost bins. And, I had a friend who would call and say, "I've got the grass; do you have the bread?" Sounds like an illegal drug deal, but he had grass clippings from his lawn for my compost bin; I had freshly baked bread for him. We hadn't lost it, we were really talking about grass and bread.

They probably secretly appreciate it. Either way, you gave me a nice chuckle. :)

lol! You and me both! I've been known to load up my bike basket with dried palm fronds from the side of the road - finding brown things for the compost heap can be difficult!

Nope.

I've done the same - sort of. A few months ago I stopped on my way (walking) to the shops to ask a homeowner where they got their gorgeous looking bark mulch only to be told to help myself - they had too much!!

If you don't ask, you'll never receive, and your garden will go without... LOL

Well, after these comments, I have decided I have not lost it but we are in fact "the new normal"!

I would have done the exact same thing and I am just fine ;-)

My kids have become used to me stopping by the side of the road to pick up 'leaf bags' during autumn - sometimes deliciously pungent :) Lovely and rare to get something for nothing in the city these days.

Wendy, I've been known to park an empty trailer at the dump on a saturday morning in spring to collect everyone elses 'trash' to make compost heaps.

Fortunately now we have chooks, pigs, sheep and cattle that provide just about enough.
