Socks and growth....

This morning I took my coffee out to the veggie garden and sat on an overturned bucket in the sun while the chickens were out. We can only let them out with supervision now as all the seedlings need a few more weeks of chicken free growing.

I took my new book to read...recommended by a reader of this blog...Twisted Sisters Sock Book.

My eyes delight in the socks that they knitted, but I must say I am just terribly nervous to start this new skill. Part of the issue is time and the other niggling thing is getting my sluggish brain to kick into gear. I see all those abbreviations and my heart sinks. I'll get there, I am sure, hopefully before winter hits!

While I was sitting out there I had the sprinkler running around the pond area and the lovely sound of our Clicking River Frogs kept me company.

I also noticed all the growth happening...while we are not eating much from the garden besides salads and herbs at the moment, there is a promise of lots to come.

Turnip leaves growing strong and green...

About 6 or 7 loofahs taking shape...

Broad Beans...can taste them already!

Asparagus...we can cut next spring for the first time! A long wait, but worth it!

Wendy - Do so wish the rain would start - everything is sooo dry! You obviously have less wind than we do - I've had to hectically support my broad beans - my first ever batch. Can't wait to eat the first of them...

The garden looks wonderful!

If you want to start knitting, start with something very simple and flat that doesn't have to be a specific size. A scarf is perfect for learning. Once you get through that you'll be hooked on the knitting bug and want to try everything else!

Hey Dani - the wind is blowing gales here today, but my broad beans aren't big enough to be toppled yet. Last year we had to group stake them which worked well.

Lois - I spent last winter knitting beanies, squares, gloves and scarves...this year was meant to be socks....we'll see if I get it right :-)

Don't you just love this book? I am helping my Jen finish off her flat knitted socks at the moment. We are adding the round toe, now I just need to figure out how to add the heel:) Your garden is looking lovely.

Don't let the socks intimidate you, they aren't that difficult, I did the same thing I was deathly afraid to try, maybe cuz I thought I would fail, but if I can knit socks you can knit socks! Youtube has some good videos that I still have to watch sometimes especially when you get to the heel etc, but just take it a step at a time, one thing I have learned with knitting is don't read to far ahead, just take it step by step! Expecting pictures of the socks! Love your blog too!

You're heading towards winter while we're quickly running in to summer temps here in Southern California. Your garden looks great! Thanks for sharing.

Wendy I just pulled out my copy of this book this afternoon! Are you new to knitting? If you are I would suggest starting with something simpler. If you can already knit then go for it. Send me an email if I can help.
