Exciting happenings!

This year is the second time that I have tried to grow loofah's. The "greenie" in me wants to get away from sponge at the kitchen sink. I was then growing loofahs to have a long term supply of the dried fruit to use instead.

So today when I was starting my morning watering and I saw that (above) I was sooooooo happy as it is my first fruit. We have had lots of flowers on the vine...

Which develop these star like clusters after they are pollinated.

So after seeing the first fruit I went hunting around the vine and found a couple more....exciting happenings indeed!

Wow that is exciting. Do you think they will mature before winter? Is there danger of frost in your area as I've wanted to grow these but always renegged because of our short season. What are they growing on and do they need much support?

Hi Tanya

They are growing along a fence near my compost heap. We still have 2 months of warm days and we don't get frost so I do think they will develop.

Jo - thanks for adding me to your blog roll - yes I am on THL.

How exciting. I have never seen a loofah growing before. So sorry you can't make it to the Food Bloggers Conference. But I totally understand that son's birthday must take precedence. I am hoping that it will be a regular event yes indeed ;o) xxx

Congratulations on your loofah happenings! I would love to try growing some here, but unfortunately don't think our climate would suit.
