Oranges and Lemons say the bells....

As it is citrus season here and oranges, lemons and grapefruit are going cheap at the moment we decided to have a "cook off" today.

In 4 hours this morning my children and I made this delicious whole orange cake -

3 jars of Balls "Morning Cheer" marmalade...promises to be a winner! I think its cheery because of the Scotch in it!

6 jars of lemon curd...my favourite!

Then the other day when I passed a farm stall they were selling dried apricots, so we made that into jam.

I was also able to get some Italian tomatoes from my veggie man and made a nice batch of chunky tomato and veg sauce which I uses for lots of different pasta dishes. This is frozen , not canned.

My youngest made chicken flavoured dog biscuits too.

The lemon spread looks lovely, I have a few bags of tangelos and grapefruit my MIL gave me, I am going to make marmalade with it, just need to rustle up a nice recipe... I love citrus season, the smell of fresh orange and lemon is wonderful and clean.. and the whole orange cake recipe is great, my family love it.

The cake is making me hungry :)
I miss the smell of citrus trees.
Years ago I lived right in the middle of a navel orange grove, with a few tangerines & grapefruit.

Ooooh, goodies for everyone including the dogs. We, too, make our own dog food and snacks. The apricot jam would be my favorite. :)

mmm , lemon curd - great on flapjacks. That's a huge amount of work for one day.
